Hi IBC!
It's been a while since I post some works which might be useful for some other people. Specially who always asked me (yes that's you  Twisted Evil ) How many people carry that thing?---now only 3 man carry for this one, which should require 6 t0 8 people if done the regular way.
Here is one which I hope some will find interesting.
Some advantages I found are:
It is light weight maybe 80% lighter than regular penjing with tons of rocks.
The formation of mountains can easily be manipulated by the designer.
Materials I used are bought from regular construction home depo available elsewhere.
Color and texture can be manipulated.
The only restriction is your imagination.

Before you scroll down further.......
What do you think about the rocks/mountains?

Here how it s made:

Plastering using regular cement plaster:
Future penjing tech. 14760910

Here you can see two types of plastering mixture, the one under is super lightweight and the one over it makes the bonding stronger:

The detailing part is the hard par and would need some practice:

Future penjing tech. 14662210

For rock detailing I am just using paint (not the paint, No paint applied here) spatula.
Future penjing tech. 14713110

Here the rocky formation is almost complete. but needs minor detailing more.

Future penjing tech. 14612410

And ofcourse the trees and moss needs to be added and scale taken into consideration.

I hope you like it...

...and you can barrow the technology for a minimum fee via paypal...hehe, just kidding.

PS.
I reviewed all sources of penjing books, there is no rules stated about using fake lightweight rock. maybe the older generation of penjing artist were just restricted by their technologies during the ancient time.Wink Wink Wink ..hehe.

jun Smile

Hi Jun

It is very pretty what you have created... the details in the "stone" are really good.

Kind regards Yvonne...I am sure it would have been done earlier if they had the knowledge.

Kind regards Yvonne

Hey Jun

We are doing similar things but using Polystyrene. We use the high density one that they use for ceilings.
You then take a blow torch and burn effects in. A soldering iron is used for details. Once that is done we use a base of roof paint with sand, rock bits ect in that and layer it on. It is super light and strong.
I will try post a pic of a couple.
You could make a mountain a meter long and a meter high and lift it with two fingers.

Regards

Hi Jun

Also found this.
We have a guy here that makes moulds of rocks and then using normal potting clay with textures to make these hollow rocks.. Also ver light.
This is a planting i did on one with a juniper.

Since starting bonsai i have always loved your plantings and am trying a few of my own. Coming up with new ways so that i can carry it to a show without the help of an army... ha ha

Thanks Brett!

We are also doing large scale artificial rock projects for swimming pool landscapes and the like.
And my Idea which I find challenging is to create the rock details in micro scale. Details I think is very important, otherwise If I apply the same method for regular rock construction, I would lost the proportional details. Even details on color transition and texture for the "mountain" rock formation I think is critical.

Jun,

What an amazing work again. This is something that really differs you from the rest in Manila. Hope it can be part of the planned training series (advance part). Looking forward for that plan soon...
