Mame is my favorite of bonsai, and this little juniper, like so many of yours is wonderful!

Lovely.

I don't have much chance with junipers, I keep losing the few I had after a few years, when they're beginning to be worth of interest. I suspect it's because I have pear-trees and apple-trees in my garden, someone told me that they don't go well together, they host diseases that can be fatal to junipers.

I don't have ant bonsai that small. What kind of watering schedule is needed to make this tree thrive?
Would a combination watering/automatic misting system work best for mame and shohin bonsai?

Excellant little "sprout"!

I have a sprinkler system on a timer. In summer they all -- large and small -- get watered 2X a day for 30 minutes. This time of year, they all get watered once a day (in the evening) for 20 minutes. My soil has very little organic material in it (tho the tiny pots have a bit more, percentagewise).

In another month, I'll have the system turned off and drained and I will water 2-3 times a week when they're not frozen in.

I do keep a close eye on all of them. On very hot and windy summer days, I'll take a hose and give them all a brief midday drink.

Nice work Jim! I hope we will be able to make it down your direction next year. I'd love to see this little guy in person.

Hope all is well,

Thanks all.

Matt: You're welcome any time. You ought to try to get here for the Carolina Bonsai Expo. It's always in early to mid October (10-11 this year).

I wish I could make it to the Carolina Expo. We are expecting on the 24th of October and I'm quickly running out of time to have everything ready for her arrival. Please take lots of pictures!

By the way, the trees I collected this spring from our property are healthy and strong. It's a good thing I got them when I did. An inland hurricane swept through a few months ago and it up rooted hundreds of trees! I'll try and update my thread soon.

Tell Jackie hello for me.
