Overpriced[?] Pot website
Hi all,
Someone shared this link on another forum to warn potential buyers about this new site [created mid 2012]
Its an eCommerce website selling pots online, but a twice to thrice the value you would get from the potter himself.
The site claims to be from an ex-avid collector, no names given [at least I did not see one ] that sadly must part with a 300 to 500 collection of pots from various potters, some being as old as 40years.
Some of Erin Pottery that from Erin's site are ranged £6 to £15 are being sold at £20 to £40.
The site in itself is a pure marketing strategy gemstone. As an IT guy, its an interesting case study. As a bonsai-ka, it pains me that some beginner might get hooked up with this.
Well those who have money and want to afford it, please feel free to buy

Some of these pots are now unobtainable as their creators have either retired, only produce to individual commission or sadly in certain cases passed away. All potters represented offer quality products at comparable if not more competitive rates than their Japanese contempories.
...
You will find Handmade pots created by: Bryan Albright, Derek Aspinall, Ian Baillie, Dan Barton, Gordon Duffett, Erin Pottery, John Pitt, Tongre Ceramics, Wallsall Studio Ceramics amongst others.

Re: Overpriced[?] Pot website
As with any purchase, whether in person or online, it is up to the purchaser to be informed regarding the value of the items in question. The site seems pretty straight forward...if folks are willing to pay the prices asked after doing their research they will have a nice pot in the end. Thanks for the link.

Re: Overpriced[?] Pot website
i must admit i thought this site was having a total laugh with their pricing. if someone has bought a pot in the past at full retail and the potter is still making it it is worth the same, not 40% more just because they want to make a profit. Many western potters have improved over time too, so the early pots are not as good as the new ones and will often be sold off for half their original rrp.

Re: Overpriced[?] Pot website
gee...I don't see the fuss over a secondary market developing for a craftsman's work (be they a potter or a bonsai horticulturalist)...and certainly making a profit is not a crime, neither for the person who has collected that pot at some time in the past and/or for the craftsman who made the piece originally. If a secondary market can drive the price up over time both the market and the craftsman benefits. This is how it works. If you know a potter who is willing to give you the wholesale price of his/her work from year to year more power to you, and pity the survival rate (in the market) of that person who gives their work away. This is a thought provoking discussion. Warm (if not argumentative) Regards to all.
