Dragon Bonsai's display was put together by Lewis, with trees from him, Chris Bray and Mike. It was a portrayal of the way Bonsai has originated and developed over time, starting with the herbs that traders and doctors carried with them from village to village cutting leaves and making cures. Then the massive influence
Of the Japanese way and finally where he see's us now in Europe

Exmouth2012 Empty Chris's annual "walking the show"

Post  Jeremy Mon May 21, 2012 12:09 pm

Thanks for posting Chris.
Each year Chris T. and anyone else that wants to join in, "Walk the show." Each tree / display is discussed amoungst the gathered crowd, total beginners, non bonsai guest and expert alike get to ask and answer the many questions offered.
It is a great way of finding things out and a chance for the trees / display owner / artist to talk about their ideas, etc.
I feel everyone goes away at the end with at least a little bit more than they came with and is a simple yet highly effective way of enthusing new and old about the art of bonsai.
way to go Chris.

Chris remarked on leaving the show, "Well that flew by." I'm not surprised, not only did Chris show and set up the Celtic knot display, he also help set up the dragon bonsai display, loaded the van, helped unload, drove both ways 3+ hours and judged the talent competition, all with a 4.20am start. I bet when we got home, he went fishing.

Chris judging the talent, (don't tell his wife.)

the winner was a young man for Cornwall, no doubt some took the trouble to find out his name. Embarassed He's the one on the right in the green.

A few pics i took of the day.
Here are a few of my personal fav. images.
John's common juniper in the sun. John set up a native only table. each society could add one of their native trees. Great idea john.

My fav tree at the show, Marcus's Acer Palmatum Beni Maiko.

Exmouth2012 Empty Teabags and the joy of bonsai

Post  Jeremy Mon May 21, 2012 12:29 pm

Marcus did an informative and well presented, not to say excellent talk / demo proceeding the talent comp. Thank you.
You drew a large crowd all clearly enjoyed and went away knowing more than before.

Unfortunatly, your bribe of a teabag to Chris just made him laugh, Roy got the joke as well it seems. Wink affraid What a Face
