my satsuki

Post  Russell Coker on Sat Apr 28, 2012 6:08 pm

Thought I'd show off the old girl while she's at her best - sorry, just a quick phone camera shot.

The variety is 'waka ebisu', an old garden satsuki here on the coast. This isn't an import, I dug an old shrub from a high school classmate's yard in 1981 or 2 in Ft. Walton Beach, FL. I worked on it in a club workshop with Toshio Saboromaru (I doubt I spelled that correctly), cut it back to a single trunk line and regrew the top and branches.

Stunning tree Russell. Like Jim's, I have had the sum total of ONE bloom so far. I did lose all the blooms from two trees in the ground when a rogue freeze hit one night. The balance of blooms on the tree that has one should be opening this week some time, but it wont look anything like yours. I love it. Very well done. Very Happy

Beautiful tree Russell,

Only a wonderful flowering tree like that can make a "busy background" irrelevent.....almost makes it look 3D !

Yep, they do love humidity! I remember how sad they always looked at George Yamaguchi's nuresry.

John, glad you said something about the meeting tomorrow night. I don't get emails for some reason. Gonna have to give Joe a different email address to try.
