Rootwork with a rope Empty Rootwork with a rope

Post  Klaudia & Martin Mon Apr 09, 2012 12:44 pm

Hello everybody

I just like to share a little trick I use while working with bigger trees.

For doing some root-work underneath I simply fix the trees top with a rope to a higher point.
It's easy to lift it up than and work with the other free hand.

Kind regards
Martin

Good tip! Thanks!

I believe Sandev (Sebartijan) use somewhat the same technique and showed it in various videos of his.

I like that tree, mind telling us what it is?

Nice helper just wondering why you have the rope attached at an angle to your work area, seems like gravity will pull the tree away from you and make it swing like a pendulum, thereby requiring you to hold onto the tree, canceling the effect of having a free hand???

Get it tied off correctly and it works just fine. We did this with BIG satsuki all the time, when they needed a really thorough root cleaning and washing, and couldn't be laid on their side.

Hello again

As I wanted to work underneath the trunk/roots the longer rope allows me to lift up the tree to the side for more visibility.

@Poink88
It is a european beech. You can see a few more pics on our blog.

Kind regards

I use this method all the time. I fashioned a heavy duty hook that is permanently attached to a beam in our car port and I use old kernmantel climbing rope that is very soft and doesn't damage bark. A wheelbarrow placed underneath allows me to raise even my heaviest trees on boxes until the tree is tied off and once the boxes are removed, the barrow catches all the soil worked or reciprocal sawn off.
