Bonsai with children
This was taken last week. My kids are getting old enough that I can set them on something and let them "help". The tree they are both torturing with safety scissors is a brazilian rain tree that I have had for a while but haven't done much with.
The other photo is my daughter removing the flowers on a sand cherry to get better growth out of it. Then we repotted this ugly duckling burt davi ficus. My daughter was all about stabbing at it with a chop stick, now she refers to it as "our tree". The funniest part was after it was all over she said, "daddy you make a really good Japanese". I don't remember even telling her where bonsai come from? Smart little girl

Pretty, too. Both. Enjoy your trees with your children. My son is interested to the extent he's always finding unusual pots, or stands, or slabs for my trees. He's 50. The Daughter thinks my bonsai are "nice." She's 46.
My middle grandchild (17) would be interested, but he has so many irons in the fire already.

Thanks jim, I do really enjoy getting out there with them. It's a win-win really, I get time with them and time to work on trees, my wife gets time without the kids under foot. I really appreciate the time that my kids want to spend time with me because I know it is short-lived.

Beautiful kids. Short lived or not, enjoy it, makes great memories.
I too enjoy sharing my garden time with my daughter when she feels like it. Wife is always there...but just in the background and help me finalize drastic decisions. They even join me on my digs so I cannot complain.
