Hi everyone!

I would like to share with you a story of my cherry tree that I collected with my friend Janez Oblak. This was our first collecting trip together and it was beginning of great friendship. With big struggle we somehow get this fat mama out.

When it was home I have potted it in wooden box and wait for right time to stile it.

Prunus mahaleb is strong grower so I made first work on it few months later from when it was collected.

In spring of 2010 I decided to pot a tree in Derek Aspinall pot. Roots were to big so I cutted big chunk off to be able plant a tree correctly.

Later that year tree was wired and I have started to dislike this pot-tree combination. In spring of 2011 I have changed a pot with new one. Potter is the same, Derek Aspinall. Front was changed a bit.

This days I'm working on my trees and this one was finished yesterday. I'm happy Smile

Greetings from Slovenia, Matija

Thanks guys for your comments. I'll show some pictures with flowers in few weeks. I think tree will ramified and thicken its branches in five years to be show ready. Looking forward to those days.

Good show Matja. In five years this will be a killer tree. Well, it already is, only a bit immature. The styling of the branches is superb.

Hi everyone!

Another mahaleb in my collection is just before flowering. I thing tree will be in white flowers in few days. This year I'll focus on growing right side of a tree strong with lots of new shoots. It must become visually heavier there. Lets hope for the best. Tree was collected in 2010 and I think that it made a good progress so far. I know that display is crappy but I had to try for first time to put a grass next to a tree Smile

Few more pictures on my blog: http://triglavbonsai-tijek.blogspot.com/

I think your trees are exceptional!! Well done!

I'm curios about the succulent groundcover you use for both trees, is it a miniature sedum? It looks great!

Matija,

Nice material and thanks for sharing. Have you considered removing the middle branch between the 2 major branches and extend the deadwood by carving to eliminate the reverse taper?

Thanks Andre, for your your comment.
No it's not a sedum, it's a sempervivum sp. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sempervivum

Poink88, thank you too.
Reverse taper is not a bad thing in all cases in my opinion. But yes I'm thinking about carving it a bit to lose that heavy part of a tree. We will see. About your suggestion for removing a branch... I do not know which branch do you think???

Ok, I understand now what you mean... Yes, I have been thinking about removing that branch, but when I have covered it with cloth I decided that this branch must stay... . it's a bit different in person than on picture. But I'm thinking about carving that section similar to a virtual on picture...

Another thought, consider modifying the first (lowest) branch at the left by removing the branch going up and carving the branch a bit to give it some movement.

I know about actual being different from pics so please take the advise only if it applies.

By the way, I am a newbie and I was told I shouldn't be giving advise. I do it anyway since I am stubborn. Very Happy Please factor this before listening to me. Thank you.

I agree with Dario, the middle branch is a distraction.

Dario why shouldnt you give advise, who told you?, your parents? Laughing
