Shohin Sumo Neea

This is a one of my other projects. I have been training this 6" fat neea buxifolia, I just re-potted today in this Tokoname pot. I believe in 3 more years this is going to be a nice specimen. Comments are welcomed.

If I could offer my 2 cents, I would say that this tree has a great start!

Right now I can see where the main branches are, but I think it still needs a couple more seasons of growth to fine tune the foliage and branch structure.

It will be great to see how things develop...

How's the back? A big scar?

Just one question; why place the tree in a bonsai pot if you are still developing the branches? The plant could benefit from a large pot and you can cut branch development by 1/3 if you place the tree in a large pot with lots of room for root growth.

Another thing and as shown by the red caption in the picture, these root ends might stat to die off, creating sap withdrawal in areas immediately above them. I suggest you place some sphagnum moss and rooting hormone to inhibit this from happening. This is quite common in collected Neea. Judging by the brownish color of the left root, it has already started.

Thank you for your advice. It makes great sense and I already transplanted it. Our teacher is a big advocate of placing pre-bonsais in their finish pots. I am getting away from doing that anymore. Once again thanks for taking the time to guide in the right path. Remember I am still and always will be learning.

Hey Rob, yes it does a have a nice scar but with some carving and wood hardener it will be fine.
