sabina juniper
Hi,
After a bit of a false start my sabina was look good.
As recommended I have kept it out of heavy rain by keeping it under cover, positioning it where it gets most of the available light, (I live in Wales we don't get that much real Sun.) and routinely misted it.
Over the last week we have had a few very sunny and warm days, so I positioned the sabina where it would get the full benefit of my south facing garden. Now to my question.
Do sabina's naturally turn brown in very cold weather, as my has.
It was out all winter the last two years, when it was much colder than usual and didn't show any signs of the brown.
This winter was unusually mild, with only a few real frosts lasting more than a few days. In the last few days, the tips have gone a rich brown, they do not look dead and the green is still rich and glossy.
I am hoping this is due to the recent frosts and me leaving the tree out from it's usual covered area.
What do you think..... ?
Your input would be much appreciated.

second image.
Hello Jerry. Although I have a Sabina, it has not turned a shade of red brown like yours has this winter. However I do have a couple of Itoigawas and a couple of Taxus that turn this colour every Winter but they have returned to their normal colour now. I think it's some kind of Winter protection for the trees.

Re: sabina juniper
that isnt the "winter bronze" which many needle species can go into in winter,i would be thinking pest or root problems.

Thank you all for your replies.
Not what I wanted to hear, but I'll checkout drainage, roots, etc.
Thanks again.
