Phoenix graft to Literati
Kevin's discussion of making his fist tanuki got me looking at the one I made back in the mid 1990s.
(probably not the best pic I have.) And, I discovered that it REALLY bored me.
This morning, I dismantled it, cleaned it up, and made something else out of it.
That is the current front.
Another front (just turned a little bit):
Still work to be done. It MAY go into that green pot, or I may ditch what's now in the orange pot the tanuki lived in for a while and use that one. I'll put more work into the deadwood when the wood has dried. The jury is out on whether more foliage needs to go, so suggestions will be appreciated..

I'm liking the change, Jim. Need to come get a look see in person soon.

I like the blue color, but as a final pot it is too big. I also like the 2nd picture and would probably want a greater slant. Not sure about the foliage, when it is thinned out a bit. Looking forward to some more pics.

I actually like the first front better. The tree moves to the right but not before the tree resolves itself to the left with the abrupt bend at the top. I really like that. The second front is a more static.

I think even the tanuki pot is too deep for this, plus maybe it's part of what was boring to you. Are you potting down in stages, or do you like the deeper pots?

I've been gravitating to deeper pots in the last few years because I'm unable to be out there fussing and watering, etc. as I once did. I try to move them into more appropriate pots when/if I show anything.

i dont recall making a "tanuki"...
but, if i did so without saying "excuse me", i apologize
and i agree with the first viewing angle as it keeps that lowest branch in play with the movement
