Hi All,
In 2008 when i was living in South Florida i got this Willow leaf ficus from one of the nursery near Flamingo Garden for $8.00

Summer 2009 after i move to Southern California i start to working on this tree . I have separate the small tree grow from the root and attach to top of the left side of the rock and the mother tree on the right side and then i air laying the upper part of the tree.

After one year in 2010 I design to cut off the air laying tree (It take much longer to air laying in CA then i use to do in FL) and i surprise the tree doing as good as it was in FL
Right before i cut off the air laying

Great work, the Californians don't do much with Ficus, maybe it is the lack of humidity. Also I think they are closer to the Japanese traditional influence than we are.

I like how you have grown your tree. It has great character. The right side branch on your smaller tree interrupts the flow. I think removing this branch and grafting a branch on the left side of the parent tree, slightly towards the back, would create more balance. It looks good on the rock IMHO. Your Siba is beautiful!

Huh???? I can't speak for northern CA but down south we do quite a bit with ficus- especially narrow leaf , mircocarpa and benjamina. Of course not as much as in FL. We also can pretty much forget aerial roots.

Very nice work Martin ! The tree looks very healthy and obviously loves California ! Flamingo Gardens is very close to me here in Pembroke Pines, and I go there often. As I've always said, Ficus nerifolia may not be the best ficus for bonsai, but it's way ahead of whatever is second ! Wink
