Last Sunday, a fellow IBC and bonsai club co-member and myself went on joint dig and I went home with these 2 boxwood. Pics after some drastic pruning...there are buds on all the branches though they don't look like it.

For size, note that the dishpan's outside dimensions are supposed to be 15.9 x 12.6 x 11 inches

Even the Boxwoods are bigger in Texas. Good stuff trunks like that are rare up here.

These are all nice long term projects. Box woods are fun, carefulll with your wiring they'll snap like dry bones if you go too far and of course keep ALL trimmings away from pets as even a small leaf or two can be very toxic to a small pet.

Thanks guys.

There are 6 of these (hedge plants) actually and we are supposed to split 3/3 but I declined to take another. They are quite bushy even after the initial trimming and my sedan was full w/ just this two plus the last 2 didn't excite me as much though almost similar sized to these. My partner got 4 and might donate one to our bonsai club. He also took a nice sized hackberry w/ interesting trunk.

It was a fun couple of hours and I will do it again given a chance. Smile

After seeing how fast collecting can be with a reciprocating saw...I decided to buy one Very Happy

Hey Dario,
Great dig, and lots of fun! Here are some quick shots of the rough-cut Boxwoods I took, as well as the big Hackberry. They will need lots more work, but I'll probably leave them alone for now, see how they pop. That is, unless I need the shelf space and make hack them back a bit further. Sometimes the fingers itch to trim. Smile

Joey,

Good eye on that hackberry...I didn't even see it with the other dead tree! You didn't show it's best feature though. Wink

I know about the "itch"...mine had 3 trimming sessions each before they reached this stage. I also need them more compact with the available space. I will continue to be on the look out so we can do it again LOL.

Folks, FYI, I picked BW #2 first then Joey chose BW #1 and gave it to me instead (because it will be a lot of fun). In effect, I got the top 2 pick!!! What a guy. Thanks Joey!

I agree. You guys are just messing with us now.

Great finds, Y'all. I lived in Houston for a year and I think that qualifies me to drop a "Y'all" at anytime.

Have a great week!!!
Sam

PS - We should have an IBC member get together while up in Rochester this year.

Hey guys,
If the old lady would let me our yard would be filled with urban collections. I only wish I could pull trunks like those most of the boxwood I see are small box store plantings. Great finds, keep up the good work they will be nice someday.

Todd

Me too, but it would be a long drive! One of these times I'll make it up there.
