Got myself a Christmas present. A pear tree. Its off to a good start but has lots of room for improvement.
Anyone know where I can get a partridge?

I used to have a pair of ceramic partridges. They were about an inch in diameter and I'd put them under my pear tree at Christmas (and at other times of the year). Dunno what happened to them.

You have a nice tree there. Lovely base and trunk. I'm close to suggesting that you cut all of the branches away and start over there, but maybe you could do some selective choosing. The lower (and bigger) branches are really too low for the trunk (IMO) so they'll need to go. That doesn't leave you with much. A couple of those upper branches are big enough to keep, but are in an awkward placement.

You're right it is off to a good start. Like to see it in a couple of years.

Excellent choice! I would have gone for that tree as well If I had seen it. I've been trying for a few years to get a Layer off a wild pear up in the woods behind me but I haven't had luck yet, it flowers nicely and makes 1/3 sized Bartlett like fruits

Here is your source for Partridge, though raising game birds is a whole OTHER crazy hobby, not unlike Bonsai! Very Happy

I really like it and I think you can do well with the branches that are there. First thing I'd do is get it into an appropriately sized growing pot...

Man, I gotta find me a pear!

Can't help with the partridge, but I will say that's a beautiful piece of material! Great potential there. I wouldn't mind seeing a couple of other views to see what the branching structure looks like.

Image looked pretty dark on my computers so I brightened it up a bit to see that great bark. Very nice!

Jay, you'll have to let us know how much it would cost to ship that across country!
