hi all

Thought i would post an update on a boxwood i started way back in 2004 ,actually this was the first year i got into bonsai and this was my very first attemp at a restyle. I remember posting the first two pics back then and getting alot of very helpful advice wich spurred me on.

the tree is devoloping well ,it still needs some branches to fill out,and some major leaf reduction wich i was going to start on next spring with a full defoliation.
the nebari turned out to be fantastic wich im very pleased about, the tree comes to around 11" from rim of pot to apex.

as always any hints and tips are always very welcome.

Well done. I too am working on a boxwood. Yours has certainly come along way and I look forward to seeing where its journey takes you.

You need to put this into a growing pot to start thickening the trunk and start working on ramifacation, otherwise it will never be a good bonsai.

I'm a bit worried about that left front branch. It goes off from the trunk in a straight 45 degree angle, while the other branches all curve away from the trunk. It always will be the odd man out, and this being a boxwood, I don't imagine it is very bendable.

It's hard to tell in two dimensions, but is it possible to remove that branch?

hi all

thankyou for the replys.

hi jim. yes i think it will be possible to bend out that branch, plenty of rafia and thick wire ,would be a shame to remove it so will try bend first.

hi shimsuki: i would love it to have a thicker trunk but boxwood are so slow growing that evan in a very wide container it wouldant thicken much, unless i let all branches grow out for a few years evan then it might not thicken this tree is around 30+ already,i think this tree is in for the long hall.I have started on the ramification but this is all at the tree's own pace ,by the time i retire this should fingers crossed be a lovely little bonsai.

thankyou

I understand boxwoods are slow growing, but a bigger container would defiantly help. It needs to be thicker though, thats just the truth.
