Pyrcantha Leaf Miners Empty Pyrcantha Leaf Miners

I've got two large pyracantha bushes in my garden which I air-layer and take cuttings from for bonsai. I recently noticed both have areas of leaves that looked variegated. On closer inspection and with a bit of internet research, I identified them as the tell-tale bubbles of pyracantha leaf miners. It seems this is difficult to control, although on bonsai I imagine the affected leaves can just be plucked off. What I cannot find out is whether these tiny caterpillars cause serious damage? Can anyone help?

This is my first post here. I live in London, England. I've been gardening and dabbling in bonsai for about thirty years.

On the contrary, something that is a cosmetic problem on a full-size tree may be very damaging to a bonsai. The only sure way to control leaf miners or leaf galls is with a systemic insecticide. Imidacloprid is very effective on bonsai.
