Hi Sam
Thanks for sharing.
Is it true if I say that you almost defoilated the tree and wired the branches?
Is it growing season in your part?

I have taken very large cuttings this summer and it was amazing how much they grew in a short time. I need now to tame down the growth and branches. I wired the branhces but some just snip when I tried to bend them.

Thanks again for sharing.

hi cosmos.

yes, the trees are partly if not mostly defoliated before work starts. this allows one to see structure of the tree, facilitates wire removal/rewiring and makes pruning branches and twigs much easier. defoliation also causes a flush of new growth, which for bougainvillea is necessary for flowering. for your wiring problem, try to wire when the branches are still green and soft. once they harden, they are difficult to bend-especially the important first downward bend off the trunk. be careful as you wire and bend green shoots. otherwise they will break off at the trunk. not much you can do about this, it happens frequently. I live in hawaii where we have year around growing season.

good luck with you trees

best wishes, sam

You really have such beauties into your garden, Sam!
Are these coming from the batch of those rescued by you?

About thread grafting bougenvilleas, what do you think? Is it an easy method?

Thank you!
