Hello everyone,
After a long period of time without showing nothing, i come to present the new olive in my collection, it arrived at my home in October this year, and right now it is presenting very good signs of recovery, i know it will be a long and tortuous way untill i can call it a bonsai, but in my humble view, it is a fantastic base to start a great tree, and knowing it is now winter in Portugal, it is a wellcome surprise to see the speed with wich this tree is recovering at the moment, show you some fotos from it's arrival untill now, hope you like i, and based on the pictures, if anyone see a possible future for it, send me some ideas, thank you all...

The humble olive tree good stuff if you havent allready take dougz olive tour and check out kaizen olive trees for inspiration. When that trunk starts to bud up it will go mental ,did you cut a straight through the trunk at your presumed soil level to produce a flat base then the tree will produce new fibrous roots . Purchase some superthrive root hormone great for root soak when your bringing stumps home . Good luck

Olive tree "dragon wing" Empty olive update...

Post  ferdy-san Fri Jan 27, 2012 3:36 pm

Hello friends,
I would like to leave here a litle update on the progress in recovery terms that i've been noticing on this pre-bonsai, i have not done nothing more than watering and feeding but i have got the feeling i will be wiring some of the small branches before they thicken up to much and become to hard to shape, once again, i would like to ask if anyone has any ideas to help in it's future stylling, and also what would be suitable as a pot for such a massive tree, thank you in advance, peace for all...

Nice tree and good progress. I think for now...leave it be. Give it a year to recover and establish before messing with it.

(Bob will be so pleased with me saying that LOL) Sorry...inside joke.

Question. Did you plant this as-is or did you chop the bottom of the root ball? Thank you.

Thank you for taking time looking, and for your encoraging comments, mr.Page and mr. Poink88,
Answering your question, Poink88, a third of the botom, as shown on the first picture, had a "close encounter" with the chain saw, as such, the base of the tree was cut flat, prior to planting,

regards, Ferdy...

Ferdy,

I expected you did and the more reason to let it recover. Be patient...you have a very promising piece, you do not want it skipping a beat now.

Good luck!
