New Pondersoa

Post  FEZ on Mon Jan 16, 2012 6:21 pm

Just got this ponderosa from Andy Smith. Its about 78cm/30in in height. I will probably style it during the local spring workshop. But until then any suggestions on which direction I should bend the long straight middle part of the tree to bring the tree down. Or maybe just wire all the top branches down? From what I understand these trees can withstand some heavy bending.

You have a really nice Pondy and Andy has some of the best material available. Regarding bending; this tree has abrupt angles to it starting from the base. If you really think about it, a smooth, gradual bend doesn't seem to fit the way the material is configured. So, it seems like you'll be going the way of angling the branches as opposed to making any fine curves.

Mind you, I've never worked on one of these, so I can't say as to what they will or will not tolerate as far as bending goes. It's a nice rugged piece and please up us up to date on the progress.
