bougainvillea Empty bougainvillea

My tree is inside for the winter..it is putting out long shuts of new growth.. should i trim them back or let them grow till spring??? thanks take care john

That all depends on what you are trying to achieve.

If your question is, "is there anything wrong with trimming my plant now", then the answer is no, there isn't. However, every bonsai should be allowed periods of unrestricted growth. It's good for the tree. It helps put size on a little more quickly.

I never trim mine over winter. In spring they'll get whatever hard pruning they need. Then it's refining for the rest of the year.

the only reason I trim mine is to keep the first few internodes of new growth from lengthening out of control as the rest of the new extension reaches for the week winter sun. I kind of keep it "end pinched" if you will.
