Amazed at the size of two privet trees
I was visiting my daughter and family last week (Front Roayl, VA, USA, zone 6b) and noticed two large trees (sorry no pictures) which were covered in ivy. Upon closer inspection I discovered that these trees were privets; probably Ligustrum vulgare. They still had fruit and some leaves which "looked like privet..." Anyway, these tress were at least 20 feet tall and had trunks with rough bark. The trunk diameters were approx 1-1.5 feet in diameter. I have never seen privets as large as these before. I was amazed. Has anyone seen privets as large as these before?

Before I cut them down to regrow as a hedge, I had privets along a fence line that had grown 12-15 ft high, but I don't think any of the trunks had diameters greater than 6" or so. Those you saw were much larger, I guess.
