It looks like it's a piece of old wood, kusamono size. It came in the box photoed. I'm really over the moon with it and wonder if anyone can tell me from the box lid anything about the maker or kiln?My first gift opened on christmas Img_2228My first gift opened on christmas Img_2229

This appears to be a pot I made but would need to see the bottom to be sure. I am also from the Seattle area and am a member of the Puget Sound Bonsai Association. If it is indeed my work, I appreciate the kind words. I can't provide any info regarding the box, however.

David you'll have to look me up at the next PSBA meeting you attend. I was so pleased with the pot, it will be
an honor to meet you! Very Happy

A lovely present to get, Dick.

Like Klaudia and Martin I too would be interested in seeing some more of David's work.

The name is written in a more semi-cursive/cursive style. I am saving the picture and will ask my wife if she has any ideas. The other characters read 小品鉢 read as shohin Hachi which means Shohin Pot.

But why would a potter be putting his pot in a kiribako that is not his? Or does that only seem odd to myself...

Probably just to you Jonathan, with your background and all - if they are indeed a "married" pair.

I often come across these boxes while I'm junk hunting and I'm always disappointed to find them empty. So I don't find it odd that someone had a special pot (or suiseki or whatever) and found a wonderful old box to put it in.

I'd like to see what's on the bottom of the pot too....

The pot was a gift and I'm sure the person put two distinctly different objects together to make a nice impression.
I do and did appreciate that. I do appreciate having our "expert" read the box for us. Thank-you! I did get a PM from David saying the pot was made in 2006, and with 235 other pots was fired in 2007. He'll be back in the NW this spring and i hope to pursue his other creations and will be happy to share. This has been fun and reminds me that indeed at times it does "take a villiage" Smile
