My garden is a bit full, I rarely acquire new materials these days but today I got the opportunity to get several unique materials.


Specie---sorry I do not honestly know, almost similar to Jasminum sambac

Hey Jun, that's cool! It does look like Jasminum. Is it a shrub with long arching branches or a vine? How big is it? I never guess correctly from your pictures!

i could be wrong, but the hanging flowers tell me its a wrythia religiosa, our vendors here call this somethingelse and its escapes me at the moment. these water jasmines are found mostly in temples and are considered sacred thus the name

Does the flower only have 4 petals....? Then it is Bouvardia longiflora.

This is not Wrightia, the flowers are wrong.

I think that Andre is correct – Bouvardia longiflora. Your photo is not clear enough to be certain, but the flowers do seem to be four-petaled and I also think I can distinguish interpetiolar stipules which are characteristic of the Madder family (Rubiaceae) to which Bouvardia belongs. Only a clearer and closer examination could confirm this guess.

you are correct billy, this isn't wrythia, i thought the flowers were hanging because of some extended stamen (or whatever that was) made it looked like it was hanging... i probably need to get new glasses, my eyes are deceiving me but my nose isn't because i could almost smell the sweet scent of the blooms

Come on guys. I know you'd never know it by looking at him, but I think that Jun would have enough sense to know a Wrightia when he sees one!

This might be Bouvardia longiflora, but.....In recent years and all throughout Southeast Asia a dwarf cultivar of Taberneamontana has appeared. There are four versions, one variegated, one with double flowers, one wth single flowers and one with four petals. Below, an image of the five petal, green variety:





On another note, these come from Thailand and they are NOT Wrigthia.

Anyhow, the plant i feature is a dwarf form of tabernaemontana. I am told there is another variety with blue flowers. The growth habit is totally unlike wrighthia.
