Jim,

nicely done. I have some experiments I am also doing with the Sageretia t.
Trouble is even in the ground after years and very long [ 4m ] long branches, still hitting trunks of 1" [ 2.5 cm ]
They do however build beautiful canopies.
Wood rots easily and wounds don't heal on the 1" trunks, they do heal on the pencil thick trunks.

Wish I saw more folk trying this shrub.
It can handle some winter /snow, though it is sold as an indoor bonsai, but it would have to re-acclimated.
Canada is cold temperate?

Please keep showing, it is educational to see how it grows indoors.
Thanks
Khaimraj

* As always test only on expendable material, have to say this for the newbees.Just in case they try the wintering bit.

Yes though are very easy to propagate. I know Sageretia can take light frosts , but mine come inside for winter. They grow in a south-facing window and continue growing right through winter if treated to their liking. I would like to find one with a big trunk - all I have seen around here are trees under 1 foot tall with S shaped trunks .

Jim,

they had them in England at up to 3" [ 7.5 cm ] about 35 + years old. However, the damage on the bark is often disgused. You get them home and go into shock.
I had a beautiful 2" [ 5 cm ] about 14" [ 36 cm ] tall, it faded over 3 years and was supposed to be 35 years old.
It was an informal, and when I looked, was living on 3 tiny roots.

There are about 5 different types, some for branches, branchlets and 1 for trunk size. The trunk size one tends to look like a Chinese ink painting, naturally.

I have cuttings taken since 96 and allowed to grow, easily trained, but the wounds become problematic as time goes by.
So now I am trying shapes from young pencil thick or thinner seedlings / cuttings.
I can get the 2.5 cm trunk with 5 to 10 years and so I thought a bunch of 15 cm trees might produce less wound stress on me.
Until
