My African inspiration

Today, I was playing around with my inspiration got from my last bonsai safari trip in Namibia.. dedicating to my South African and Namibian friends, especially to Bernie and Tobie/Sandy...

I have some acacia in training for my coming African “flat-top" style, but I can't wait to try with my first Pemphis (why not ?) :



Bucida....



and Brazilian rain tree...



Further refinement on the ramification and "touches" will improve the African nuance....

Thanks Sam, I will refine the crown to be rather flat with better branching structure. In fact not all trees in Africa are flat top, but when we do it into bonsai, flatter top is one of the way to emphasize the African trees character beside other "touch"...
I have few more acacia in training for this vision.. :

I am attempting one myself...far from being close to your work though . my other thread on the blue bell twin trunk is aimed to have the same ambiance as the safari mood.

The Giraffe in the second photo looks OK (at least for me) The first one is I think out of proportion with respect to the tree, Same with the zebras. Just my opinion. Giraffe looking up to the canopy trying to reached some foliage would be perfect. (IMHO)

You are right Jun.

On the Pemphis, I should improve the land contour so the giraffes will look further to the back.
On the rain-tree, the ramification should be improved to look like mature large tree.
The ramification (foliage pads) of the bucida should also be refined.

Then..I still do not succeed to convey my vision because I am not sure if they are practicing Ch'an in Africa..

Certainly Ed. We had a great great time there and as I said, Africa nature is the second influenced country for my inspiration after China..
