Goodmorning,

I have a little chinese elm since 2 years. I let it grow up this years to work it this fall.
I need some advice to find a good style because it's a bite difficult for me with this tree.
The earth is of this spring.
Could you help my to find something for my elm.

You have a stout trunk there..my opion,,i would strigthen it up to the left...isee some inverse taper where the branches start. question only could you carve off the branches on the right to help this??? post what you think and do please....take care john

hi,
it depends what tree styles please you, as this elm could be made into any of them. if it were mine i would cut off everything between the stronger bottom branch and a stronger upward pointing branch - then you have a trunk curving into the bottom branch nicely and the new leader taking the tree up to the next branch

i am bad at paint but this is an idea

yes of course you could style it in the broom style - begin by getting the trunk more upright though. then choose about 3 to 5 branches and let them grow long so they thicken, then chop them back to about 5-7cm, from the buds that form on the end of each branch let 2 or 3 grow long then chop back to 5 cm, just keep doing this and you will get a perfect broom tree.

Hello,
I prefer the hokidachi style but the other proposition are very good.
How can i get the trunk more upright though? with wire? with a repoting?
If you're time, can you make me a virtual, pictures???
