I'm always surprised by the quality of the taiwaneese junipers curves. An i can't explain why but i realy like the sylver wire. Very Happy

First job is very cool, the second one will need more time i think.

I'm hurry to come, see you soon...

Yep! They are trained at an early age and not left alone to grow untouched, as if they were regular crops.

Great job, Lo.

Very nice Lo,

I wish there were more schools like this here in Asia. So many students, very few teachers.

Thats Awsome.

To bring one tree from start to finish with a mentor, thats a great way to do it.

Plus you obviously get to work on MONSTER trees!

Anytime someone gets to immerse themselves into an opportunity to learn for an extented period of time, it can be a better learning experience than the same amount of time over a disjointed period of time.

My teacher is the curator for the weyerhauser Pacific Rim display and author of the book, basic bonsai design.
It's being reprinted while he works on his second book. All this to say, we meet 6X a year all day. Which is fine but really does not produce the reults I want. So what I do is to volunteer at the display several times a month to continue that learning experience with maintenance on the trees. I also do the same weekly with a retail establishment that can use a helping hand (especially summer watering). This exposure to what i love helps for me to "put things together" in between those 6 days of intensive training.....

Amazing work for begineners. Lo you are teaching them well - especially by having them work on such excellent material. I think we couldl all learn from that.

See you and Budi in Japan, too!

I thought that removing more than 50% of foliage on evergreens at once is extremely risky. Can you get away with this kind of reduction all at once?

you can easilly remove 50-90% of the branches and foliage on evergreens as long as the bits you keep have younger healthy foliage remaining that isnt going to shed in a few months time, leaving bare branches. As with all heavy styling though the material has to be nice and healthy before you start, and given good aftercare once you've done the work.

And Taiwan's climate is not the same as in Europe or the United States, humidity very high, a lot of heat.
