Need Tree ID Help

Post  mbolos on Tue Nov 08, 2011 6:11 am

Hello,

A neighbor offered me a few trees for that lovely price of $0. She claimed this one to be a linden, which I find very hard to believe. It looks like one of those Home Depot topiary balls. Thoughts on species?

Hello,
I am no expert but this looks like a ficus to me.

I don't think it is a Ficus. A quick check for Ficus is remove a leave and observe the milky white sap (latex).

Take a look at this.

I think it is one of the Syzygium, but maybe not this specific one.

I think you're right on target with the Home Depot topiary idea. Those are Eugenia, but I don't remember the species. Also goes by Australian brush cherry. Where the hell did she get linden?????

Russell,

Your right on target with Eugenia (Syzygium paniculatum) would be my guess.

And ficus don't have opposite leaves, do they? The pictured plant seems to have opposite leaves.
