Juniper Chinensis Bunjin

I want to share an attempt at a literati juniper I've done recently. It has a nice shari that runs from the base to just above where the wire starts in the second image. There is a lot of work to be done on the deadwood and refining that aspect of the tree in the future. I have doubts about the second branch from the bottom... I thought about removing it, but instead, pulled it around to the back. As I look at it, it seems to be out of place, but I left it for now. I'm interested in any comments you might have on the current state of the tree and any recommendations or changes that would allow me to fine tune it in the future.

Good start.  I'd get rid of the lower branches. Or at least the one on the underside of the trunk.

Balance, I guess.  I think it would be helpful to see a picture or two from other "sides" of the tree.  The branch twisting behind and around the trunk bothers me, as (especially) does the one that just seems to be dangling.  And they both seem to be a bit low on the trunk -- very much apart from the foliage on the top.

Nice literati you have found there. The trunk has great potential for well placed shari's following those prominent growth veins to enhance the aged look.
I think a changed planting angle and a more compact crown with a 'dropper' branch for balance would work nicely.

Apasit, the tree measures 18 in (roughly 46cm) from base to crown.

Jim, I will give some other views when I get a chance. If only the very top is maintained, would you say that leaving it very sparse would be best?

Justin, I agree that standing the angle more vertical would give the tree some more balance, since it currently seems to be hanging over currently. It is interesting that you are accentuating the 'dangling' branch and Jim is suggesting taking out completely! Shows how many viewpoints can be had from each and every person

The way Justin has redesigned the tree, that seems to be a different branch.  I'm not sure you can get the top down that much/enough to incorporate that branch with the tree pruned as it is today.  You could let that upper hanging branch lengthen and perhaps that would do the same, but as is, that lower hanging branch does nothing for the tree.

Now that you mention it, Jim, you are right... the branch going out to the back could be used down and to the right if that is the direction taken.
