Ginko - small leaf

I found several small leaf ginko trees at the nursery the other weekend. The trees are approximately 6-8 foot tall with small diameter trunks. What is the timeframe for recovery of a ginko recovering from a trunk chop in the spring? I have a ginko, that has been developed from an old stump, however it was well on its way when i purchased the tree. Thanks!

Randi, type "ginko" and then "ginkgo" in the search box at the top of the page. You'll probably find some helpful info in these threads.

The consensus seems to be that it's better to start small, or from an airlayer, than start with something big cut down. But I haven't tried it, so I can't really answer your question. Keep us posted.

You have to remember that ginkgo is not a flowering tree. It is a very primitive gymnosperm, perhaps even more primitive than the conifers. I would be very cautious with drastic styling techniques.
