European Cedar No.1

Hi IBC, This is a European Cedar over two years. Unfortunately I have no pictures of when I first acquired it but was basically a stump with a little green.
Would be good to get some advice on improving and refining the carving as I'm unsure of the reverse tear drop shape. Hope you like it.

The trees you have posted in the last few days look very good..i am not sure where you live but you do have some nice material to work with..also your foram name,,,,loved all those movies!!!! take care john

Nice tree,better girl But I think this is not a cedar but a leyland juniper

The tree was originally from Kaizen Bonsai and was listed as a European Cedar, so have no reason to disbelieve it. Will try and do a bit of research to see what I can find out.

Are you sure it was European? Could it have been Eastern? I believe Manosvince is right in thinking it is not a true cedar but there are a host of others that use the term "cedar" in their common names. What would be handy is if you had the original label somewhere and it had a proper botanical name on it.

Looks like a Leyland cypress to me. Good work on the deadwood anyway.

Is the last picture your front? If so I would move the branch to show off the deadwood, it seems hidden by that branch.

The final pic is the intended front but I have only given the branches some shape, not placed them in the final position. Will probably wait a year or two for it to have a little rest before I do it. Hopefully will fill out a bit more in that time as well. Still not sure if I’m happy with the dead wood on the trunk yet. The tear drop shape of the deadwood on the root looks ok if not a little too perfect in shape (maybe needs to be a little more irregular) but the upside down tear drop of the deadwood on the trunk give it the illusion of reverse taper when viewed from directly on. So might try and fix that next year.
