Post  Andre Beaurain Sat Apr 14, 2012 7:54 am

Good day

I just noticed yesterday that my Cork oak has got borer in the stem!!!! affraid

It happened to my Bougainvillea a couple of years ago, so I injected Aphicide into the tunnel openings. The thing is the bougainvillea suffered and took over a year to recover vigorous growth.

What to do??? Please help.

Hi Andre

I have no exact knowledge about it...But it sems to me that provadosticks in the soil, may give a tree, the wood a unwanted and maybe poisions taste...I use theese stick for other bugs, but I found bigger bugs dont eat or sleep in treated trees.

Kind regards Yvonne

Thanks Yvonne, Will go and see if I can find that here in SA, never heard of it.

So if I feed the tree with a systematic insecticide, something that the tree will take up in the cells, will it work? Like 'Granular Insecticide' Surely the poison doesnt penetrate into the 'deadwood'? Or does it? Then it takes about two to three weeks?.
I WANT THE BLEDDI BORERS OUT NOW!! help

Hi Andre

Maybe your problem with this tree already has become to big.....but granular insecticide could be your answer to prevent future attacs.
I can not imagine already attaced deadwood is safe, here you will have to do something else. But if the motherbug taste the frees wood, and dont like it, am I sure she will not lay her eggs in this tree, and the deadwood here will be saved.
Maybe Smile

Kind regards yvonne

Yes Yvonne provado sticks make the whole tree poisenous, sap and tissue.
But if they help with borers, I have my doubts.
