Re: A Sad Day for Seedlings...
i've had 2 mariages that had 2 dogs.....first one (labrador) ate the most important branch on a mikawa yatsubusha maple bonsai...................after the divorce............(no kidding)............i have a happy life with Mandy and a Bichon Frise, it (the dog) sits under a canopy of kiyohime and shishigashira branches on hot days...............and bites them off !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the two acers are planted in the middle of the lawn to bulk up but i think they are beyond bonsai now.
moral............pets and bonsai dont mix

Not only do you have to keep the kitten away from plants for the plants' sake, many plants are poisonous. If you can't put your seedling pot where the kitten can't reach, put it in an old birdcage.

I can relate to you guys. my dalmatian dug and uprooted my bonsai. I replanted it and luckily it survived the ordeal. I made a partition for my dogs and trees.

sorry to hear it. always hurts to lose something you've invested your time and energy in like that. kitties tipped a small bench that i keep out on the front porch earlier this year. three or four small pots, gravel and turface everywhere. not to mention little trees. they like to chase the lizards that hide underneath the pots to get away from the cats...my advice as a cat owner of many years is to treat your house like you have a toddler. except cats will even get places toddlers can't. good luck with the other sprouts!

I should be so lucky to have my dog finally eat something that was poisonous! He's been the cause of much anger and the death of more than a couple trees...we have an understands now

I had 50 JWP seeds that I scarified and all the work that one must do to make them sprout in a couple flower flats and just as green started poking out of my carefully prepared soil he ate BOTH flowed flats. He just wanted to chew the plastic apparently! AAHGH! So he earned himself a chain to be tied to in spite of my nice fenced in yard

Hmm, JBP and JWP seeds don't need scarifying and will sprout perfectly happily without any stratification. I get about 95% germination from good quality fresh seed sown in spring.

Those were the instructions I got from this web site and others. Doesn't matter cuz they all died from laying in the sun all day
