Hello,

Here is an idea. I would remove the dead wood, rewire the lower left branch out, and cut where I have marked in black. Also a shorter pot in the future. Just an idea, hope this helps.

Abe

Hello Ka Pabling

Very interesing tree. This is for me only Indor-bonsai. Very Happy
I think it's good to let the dead wood. It is a very significant element of the tree. The new composition, I obeyed it. Wink

HI Abe,
Thanks for your comment

Hi Pavel,
This tree needs full sun and it is hardwood so there is no problem keeping the deadwood.

Best wishes

beautiful material ka pabling

quite a challenging tree. how about tilting the other way? living part up, deadwood down for cascade. train long lower branches behind/under deadwood so foliage appears to come from deadwood. streamline deadwood. grow living part for apex and branches. create some long branches to fill negative space.

best wishes, sam

Ya gotta keep the deadwood, at least most of it! To those that say "cut it" they need to come to Maui and sit on the beach where all the Kiawes (acacia) grow right in the sand over the ocean. This looks like a beach tree you thought was dead yet there is new gree growth hanging out over the ocean. Sam is right!

Good morning IBC,
Here is an update of this acacia, I did some cleaning and refining of the dead wood before I will cut it if ever I will decide to let it go.

Here are different angles of the tree;

Since this is a very challenging tree to work on, if ever I am going to retain the dead wood, I might as well "raise the stakes" I am not sure if thats the term they use in poker games.

With picture no 3 I will tilt the tree to make a semi cascade style with the live part on top as Sam suggested and plant it on a rock!

I hope somebody can help me with the virtuals, am now calling for Dorothy,Cram, Rob and the rest.I have some large size limestone rocks which could be carved to fit your virts.

Best wishes

Keep the deadwood. All of it! The deadwood is the character of the tree. The foliage is the cosmetic.
Just an old man's opinion. Cool

To me, fewer deadwood, life should prevail Wink

Though there are veins that give it a rhythm, the dead wood part is on the overall, very circular, very geometric.

Maybe the live part (2/3) could echo this structure like a living shadow...

Ka pabling,

In Puerto Rico, we have Aroma (Acasia farnesiana/ which we also call aroma) and Baya Honda (Prosopis juliflora). Due to the size and type of foliage of your tree, I often think this is, in fact, Prosopis juliflora. Can you post a picture of the flower stamens?

On another note, Prosopis juliflora coal is often used to roast lechón, as it possesses an unusual amount of the flavonoid/mesquitol in its heartwood.

Your friend,

Jose Luis

Hi Jose,

This tree is definitely not a baya honda. I just saw the picture of prosopis juliflora, the leaves are larger. aroma leave are smaller and and have needle sharp thorns almost 2 inches long.

Hi Dorothy,
What do you have, the baya honda, or the acacia farnesiana. I am not sure if baya honda could be made a bonsai.

Best regards

Pabling,

Baya honda has small leaves, like the acasia farnesiana. Also, it has mean thorns, like the Acasia farnesiana. The reason i ask for a picture of the flowers, is that they differ a lot. Aroma has a small yellow ball as a flower. Baya honda has an elongated flower stamen. It kind of looks lika a banana.

Baya honda can be made into a bonsai, particularly with those collected along the shore.

Your friend,

Jose Luis

I think Dorothy was making fun of the name, comparing it to the Japanese car. Honda means deep in spanish.

Hi Jose,

Thats what I saw, the flowers of baya honda are elongated while that of aroma, are small yellow balls.
Do you have aromas in your garden?
