Collected Colorado Spruce

This is a collected Colorado Spruce (Picea pungens) with tons of character. This was quite an unorthodox piece to work on, but I went with the tree's natural flow.




And here is the first styling.

The collecting credit goes to Todd Schlafer of First Branch bonsai (the first picture is actually the tree in his nursery, and the second one is at my place after I styled it).

Initially, I wasn't into Colorado Spruce, but after I saw the character on some of his collected materials (and seeing some of Ryan Neils Colorado Spruce on his Mirai website, I started falling in love with this material). From what I hear, this species is much more forgiving and hardier than most other Spruce species.
