Hi there.
autumn in the south of Chile, (beginning of patagonia zone), is characterized for being very short. Not more than 20 or 30 days of autumnal colors and than winter time starts and for 7 months long (or more).
That because I wnat to show you the end of Fall colours in two of my Southern falsebeech (Nothofagus antarctica)

I hope you like them

Regards

Gabriel

I love this species and like very much what you are doing with them Gabriel. Your broom is very pretty and the semi-cascade is coming along nicely.

I only have one as a bonsai but am going to air layer many more off my full sized garden tree this year.

Very elegant trees indeed, I like your style, the impression these trees give is very peaceful, very natural.

(Y) : I think this forum misses a thumbsup icon... thumbs up Smile

I agree, the styling on both are very nice.

How do these do in our climate zone? (6a zone)

(I like the thumbs up emoticon) thumbs up

Here's a short and interesting quote from the Annals of Botany site http://aob.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/full/89/6/665
Nothofagus antarctica (G. Forster) Oerst. is a woody species whose range extends from 37°S, in the northern Patagonian Andes, to approx. 56°S, in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina (Dimitri, 1972; Cabrera, 1976; Correa, 1984). It forms dense and extensive populations in valley bottoms as well as in wetland margins in both Chile and Argentina. This species can grow as a tree up to 15 m tall, but has a strong tendency to develop as a 1–3-m-tall shrub, with evenly sized axes diverging from the soil surface (Ramírez et al., 1985). Despite little reproduction by seed (Premoli, 1991), N. antarctica plays an important role in the post-fire restoration of plant communities because of its ability to regenerate vegetatively from burned stumps by coppice and root suckers

Looking at the zone map for South America http://www.backyardgardener.com/zone/sazone.html should give a clear idea of where it is likely to succeed elsewhere.

Many thanks to all for your comments.

Kev. I did one or twice air layers in N. antarctica, but they didn`t work fine. Shocked
Please, if you have some pics. when yours are ready send some pics. I really appreciate it. Cool

Here, two more Nothos.

Best Regards.

Gabriel
