Re: portulacaria afra
Hi memet,
Just to clarify: The tree seen in pic 3 is former form of tree that is seen in pic. 2 (before it is styled) ?
Or these are 2 different trees?
P.S.: I would like to write in Turkish but we are at IBC

Yes, 3rd pic. is before styling, and 2nd pic. is after styling last year.

Wow, good transformation!
I have some P. Afras (6 or 7 trees) and I love them much.
They are growing fast and do require frequent prunning, that's why I like to handle them
Keep us posted!

Dear Memet
I am curious about how you will style them?
Last tree is also very nice, but I cant imagine how will you style it!
Thanks

Oooo heavens above.....
Guys, I just realized that IBC memebrs doesnt read all the posts.... For why do we insist on making the same mistakes. We've been through this a thousand times, please do a search on Portulaca's and read the posts, maybe you will get educated, who knows!
Portulacaria afra is not a Jade tree!
Its either a Elephant bush or a Pork bush.........
Crassula argenteum is the Jade tree
Tell me please what is Jade about the Portulacaria afra?
Love and light
Andre

Andre,
I already know that this is a portulacaria afra, not jade. And if you look at the title of thread you will see that I already wrote "portulacaria afra" (not jade) when I opened this thread.
That "jade" word written in my last post was just a speech defect by mistake. Also, I have both jade trees and afra trees & I know all the differences between them.
In any case, you dont need to correct me with such huge font size and color as if you're scolding me. Just a kind reminder would work for your purpose.
Anyway, no problem.
Take care

Hi Memet,
You're lucky to have such "Arbres de Jade" as we commonly say in French
But as both Crassula and Portulacaria are native plants in S-A, André knows what he's talking about . To my surprise, I read a few days ago that they can reach a height of 4 metres! I even learned that the "elephant bush" was a main source of food for the elephants in some regions, figure that...
Can you keep them outdoors for the whole year?
I've been to Ankara in the winter, and the weather (there was such a snow storms that the drivers had to abandon their cars in hilly streets) is probably very different in Iskenderun: maybe you could indicate a more precise location in your profile, for instance, nr Karaman, Turkey, or Kayseri region, Turkey.
PS: Memet, can you find "domalan" after the rain where you live ?...

Hi Alain
Yes, you're right! this plant is native to SA, and probably Andre knows more about it than me, but knowing more about a plant does not give right to scold anyone else who knows less
So, sometimes I am questioning the purpose of such posts.
I see in this forum that some English native speakers call it "Jade" either by mistake or due to ignorance or just insouciance... And this time I wrote "jade" by mistake
Actually we dont use this name (Jade) here, this is an English term, and I did a simple translation mistake
Anyway, what worths to discuss is "whether my applications done on my trees are correct or not", rather than checking my spelling in my posts. (My english is poor as I am not a native speaker).
My exact location is Izmir (west of Turkey), and I have to keep my afras in greenhouse during coldest days of winter). Turkey has many climate zones, and there are great differences between these climate zones as you've said.
P.S.: That mushroom (domalan) grows in north regions of Turkey, not here. By the way, I think you already know that this term (domalan) has two different meanings (in Turkish), and the other meaning of it is too dangerous, haha
Be careful when using it in Turkey
