Dear friends,

I repotted my ficus benjamina "natasja" after 7 years of fusing. It takes a lot of time, here in Belgium, to have the stems fused properly. There's still a hole in the front of it, big enough to house a hobbit! I'm happy with the pot, though.

Lucky Hobbit!

That's one of the most successful trunk fusings on a F. benjimina that I've seen. The trunk can only get better -- and don't worry about that hole. It fits.

(Note to Ryan: It takes TIME!)

That's one thing I am unsure of when it comes to fusing. I've read that people have been successful after leaving the trees tied for 2 years, and then this one for 7. I guess it's all in where, and how, they're growing.

Very nice tree!

Where, yes . . . AND on how tightly the trunks are clamped together. I use those little plastic thingies folks use to tie banners to wire fences. I have NO idea what they're called, but you can crank them SO tight the tree screams. I don't often do Ficus as you know, but I've done crabapples and Osage oranges and the graft takes fairly easily, but it takes more years for it to look right.

Hi Anne,

That is fantastic! I think it looks terrific, hole included! Very Happy It gives me an idea for a few ficus cuttings that I have taken a while back! Lots of luck with it!

Thank you all for the nice comments. Keeps one going Very Happy

I had about 10 trunks bound together with raffia. I think two trunks died, but I didn't remove them, as they did fuse a bit and it would be difficult to take them out.

Nice job of fusing. I do quite a bit of it with other fig varieties and am somewhat surprised at how long the fusing took. Were they bound together tightly?

Congrats with the fuse! What will you train the rest of the tree to become? Broom style?

Good job on the tree.
Jim do you mean what we in Norway call "strips"?
