Hello all,

I have registered here a couple of months ago and have been participating in other users topics, but I feel it's time to post something from myself, because all of you have shared so much that I feel a responsability of sharing something with you guys. Since this is my first "personal" post I will introduce myself and leave a video of an overview of my humble Bonsai Place (hope it doens´t sound to lame!).

My name is David Carvalho, I live in Portugal, I'm 31 and I am fairly new to the world of Bonsai, I have been studying Bonsai for the past 2 and half years with Maria João Simões with the main goal of studying in Taisho-En/Japan in a couple of years time. For the past 11 years I've been a Designer and Artist developing design/art/illustration in other medias, like canvas, paper, digital etc but when I discovered all the world of aesthetics and creativity behind Bonsai I simply fell in Love and since then this love have been growing like no other, it's so strong that today I see Bonsai has my main creative "media" and have been working hard and using all my free time to study this art, still I know that my path is long and I have no rush, I just wanna do it the right way...

Your English is great, the background music, however, is irritating, at least to my American Redneck ears.

Looks like a great collection considering the time you have been at it. I especially liked the big olive. Thanks

Post  David Carvalho Thu Aug 18, 2011 10:02 pm

Hello Jim,

It has been an "hell of a journey" I now have about 30 trees/projects, some of them are not in the video (3 Juniperus Sabinas, 1 Scots Pine and 2 Buxus) which means I'm getting more than 15 projects per year (remind note: I must stop buying trees!!! Twisted Evil NOT! Laughing ).

Thanks for your comment,

Best regards,

You have a beautiful collection and love the video. I just started my journey a month a go and now have 6 trees. I'll be seeking a local club soon to expand my knowledge on the history and the art of bonsai's.

Hi David,
I have similar taste in Bonsai. I like a lot of trunk movement. I especially like what I believe are junipers. Great work, keep it up.

David,
I liked your video. You have an amazing collections for the time you have invested. Your teacher must be telling you to buy the best material that you can. Who will take care of your trees when you study in Japan? I see that you are irrigating. Do you not have time to water your trees by hand? Or is this a common practice in Portugal and other Mediteranean climates?
I liked the music; very moving!
Best,
Todd

Hello all,

First of all, thanks for your comments.

Todd, Regarding the watering I have a irrigating system that I only use when I'm on short vacations (10 to 20 days max.) the rest of the year I water by hand. My teacher gives me her opinion on every tree, still I'm the one who chosed each one.

Tona, Yes they are Juniperus, one of my favourite specie.

Nellie, I just can't imagine really what my collection will look like in 5 years, hope it gets better every year Smile

Will, I have done many sacrifices to build my collection Smile and a huge dedication to maintain it!

Best regards,
