Hi IBC.
Summer is upon us.(locally). this is the season where heavy bonsai chores (generally speaking) is done.
After letting the tree grew wild during the rainy season, time for restyling it has come again.

Hey Jun,

An excellent tree and great work on the deadwood. Having said that while the main deadwood on the left is great, the one rising from that branch into a smaller branchlet is visually unsettling for me. Just my thought. Pic below captures my thoughts.... (Branch indicated by green arrow stays, the one indicated by red arrow goes)

Let me know what you think....

Ravi,
Thank you for appreciating my tree, though it will take another year or so before it achieved something really nice.

With regards to the left side deadwood- my thought on it is the opposite idea with yours. try deleting or covering the branch indicated by your green mark and visually keep the red marked branch instead. don't you think it will follow the form of the tree trunk from base to tip? and the tapered look will be more obvious? while if we keep the green marked branch, don't you think it will become too heavy and very "horizontal" in appearance. Anyway, if the foliage and branches reached it full size and full potential specially on the left side, the deadwood won't look too heavy at all...We'll see what happens in the future on which part would remain,... option is still open.

Well Jun,

Giving a thought to what you have said... actually you are right. It'd make "MORE" sense keeping the red branch and doing away with the green one. Certainly gives better movement and character. This is definitely better than what I have suggested. No ego issues in admitting it... Very Happy Go ahead "JUST DO IT" as Nike would say...

Hi Jun.
Another beautiful casuarina. How many do you have?????

Your deadwood creation is right on. I agree with you that you should keep the branches. IMHO all that is needed is that you decrease their visual heaviness and create more taper, thus increasing their viusal speed.

I also agree with a round pot, ? a grey one with studs.

Thanks for sharing and keep us posted.

Yes, No Ego involved here, It's just a "Democratically artistic" discussion.
...but still I won't hastily cut it.

Hi Jun

Very good work. The tree I love. But it also seems to me dead wood in the crown a little heavy. I know that life is a tree in a different perspective. Beautiful development and look forward to the next photo. Very Happy

Arno,
Thanks!
...I'm a dedicated amateur not a master.
I am sure you could find the casuarina you are looking for. an upright casuarina is also a very good design. see some of Mr Walter Pall's upright pines. you could use it as a design inspiration with all the shari and jins it will look lovely on casuarina. just look for a material with lots of lower branch growths.

jun Smile

Hey Arno
You can try air-layering some nice branches higher up the tree. Casuarinas air-layer in no time at all. Also you can cut drastically down and leave a small stump; let new shoots grow and then choose the most promising ones and 'discipline' them into branches. Doing this you can start to create movement in the trunk.

I can't read Chinese character....but I wanted to thank you my friend. The virtual you made is very very nice. the pot I got is the closest to your idea on pot that I can find. But as for the stand, I think we can reproduce something like that. It will complete the presentation.
