Re: Carpinus turczaninnouii
Hi Brett,
very nice glaze/finish for carpinus. Very nice pot form and size for this particular specimen too. Given the pot's colour, I assume you're going primarily for the winter image of the tree. In that case, it's a shame the tree is lacking in branches on the left; Have you considered grafting?
Who is this fine pot by?
Thanks for sharing the tree and all the best!

Brett,
Without offence I don't like pot. For this beautiful trunk I would see larger oval or round pot. That's my taste. Trunk has very nice taper and branches will get longer with fine ramification after few years. Very strong potential... maybe later on you'll change the pot shape when crown becomes bigger.

Thanks for the varied replies from you guys. I think this is a very nice pot and an interesting choice but not sure it is exactly the right one yet.
I am looking forward to seeing the tree progress for the next few years in this pot and I am sure I will try another. I am not sure my first choice would be an oval or round. Round makes some sense but my first thought would be a rectangle balances the strength of the trunk better? I will give it more thought.
I did try and failed at a graft on the left and in the end I kinda liked the drooping branch. (to be honest I considered that I had never seen Walter graft a branch and wondered what he would do, now I am asking for trouble ) I hope that it is something a little different and also allows me to better show of the trunk when in full leaf.
I look forward to a nice wide crown and nice ramification.
Oh and the potter is Pat Kennedy an Aussie potter. He can be a little hard to contact on the Internet but here is his email patspots@bigpond.com
