Thank you very much guys :-)

Ebbtide - you need to seek information in the US, but I believe you cannot as a private import Pines. You must contact importers of bonsai to be apple to get such material.

i believe officially for the UK not only do you need a licence to import bonsai, but the trees must have spent 2 years in Quarenteen in Japan - on benches, under cover and a total change of soil. i think this applies to nearly all our popular bonsai species now, but satsuki may be exempt from this - if one of the few people still importing is reading they may let us know Very Happy

within the eu we can move trees between countries (i think it is up to 5 trees) without any certificates.

if anyone is happy to answer what do they think the percentage rate of success is with bringing little hardy shohin trees (pine & juniper) tucked away in the suitcase with the dirty socks? -

We have a lot of local bonsai nurseries here that sell Japanese pines but I haven't seen quite an extensive mature trees collection as this one. Perhaps someone can direct me where to purchase without spending a fortune. Smile

Thanks, Philip

Well, I think that will be the problem then. These trees are very expensive, and that's why you do not see them at the local bonsai nurseries.
