Does anyone happen to know the origin of Cedrus libani 'Green Prince?'

Well I am Lebanese and most Lebanese people are proud of their Lebanese Cedar, however my information says that the biggest concentration of
Cedars is in Turkey. It is called Lebanese because it was first classified here.
I am not sure if that helps Smile

Thank you. I am familiar with the species. It is found in Israel at higher elevations, like Mt. Hermon, & mentioned in the Bible. However, I am looking for the origin of a particular cultivar, 'Green Prince.'
Do you have a cedar bonsai? They are very elegant.

A little more Googling revealed that 'Green Prince' is actually a cultivar of Cedrus libani var. atlantica, or Cedrus atlantica, the Atlas cedar. Anybody have further information?

This cultivar sounds like a hybrid cross between C. libani and C. atlantica. I have two C. libani (one is a 'nana') and a single C. atlantica. I've noted that the C. atlantica is definitely tougher stock for bonsai cultivation, but the needles on the Atlas are not as green and are longer/courser than the C. libani. I keep the Cedrus because they seem to handle the weather in Hampton Roads just fine - I can't keep a Japanese White Pine alive here, the summer's have proven to be just too hot and humid for them, I suspect. Embarassed
At Zone 8, cold is not a problem for any of my Cedrus here either with a little over-winter protection I provide for them.
Hopefully the C. libani/atlantica cultivar you are interested in has some of that 'hybrid vigor' these unusual crosses can sometimes develop?

It is a dwarf. I have one and a couple of Atlas cedars. They are both cedars, but beyond that quite different. More likely its origin was as a broom on a cedar of Lebanon than anything to do with Atlas cedar (IMHO What a Face ).
