I could use help identifying my bonsai... I bought it from a small garden store as a clipping about a year ago (see picture one) and now it is growing out of control. I would like to find more information on how to take care of it but I am not sure what kind of bonsai it is. Please see the pictures below.

The tree is two week to stand on its own, I currently have it supported with a stake. Can anyone give suggestions on how to clip or trim this type of bonsai?

Thanks!!

Well, I am not sure I would call it a bonsai. Lack of light is probably the reason it has gotten so leggy. I will look for the scientific name.

Is this not a chrysanthemum albeit a slightly chlorotic one?

First and foremost, welcome to the forum, Varcity. I hope you become as quickly addicted to this hobby and art form as the rest of us.

Before we comment on your tree it would be good if we got confirmation of genus. Where's Jay Gaydosh when you need him - he's the chrysanthemum man.

Where do you keep this plant as a matter of interest? Indoors or outdoors?

Looks like a Parsnip to me Smile . Welcome to the forum but I doubt very much this subject will be suitable as bonsai as it doesn't appear to branch.

Thanks everyone... Like I said I purchased this from a small garden store and they told me it was a clipping from a bonsai tree. I have no idea how to take care of it and all it seems to do is shoot straight up and grow leaves!

I keep the plant indoors on a south facing window sill so it does get quite a bit of sunlight and I have "up-potted" it twice since I've owned it.

Any advice would be great, if you have more questions I will do my best to answer.

Thanks again Smile

I'm betting it is a variety of Polyscias fruiticosa, the parlsley or "Ming" aralia. Sometimes sold as a bonsai plant, but...
