What's the chances of starting a new focus on a specific topic? I think display stands merits it's own header as opposed to squeezing them in someplace else?

Hi Dick, just to clarify ..do you mean the kind of stands used in the garden context, or tables / jiita that are used in the "show/ display" context. Either way, could be interesting.

Cheers, Mark

Appreciate your votes of agreement. To be honest, I had the show stands in mind, but it wouldn't hurt to exchange ideas on backyard display as well.

I don't know if it needs to be a separate forum, or maybe added to kusamono or suiseki. Stands, scrolls, all of the finer points of display - I think - should have a home here somewhere. Maybe this would be a good place to post exhibition pictures too, it would add to the amount of viewer traffic.

For now "Kakejiku" (Jonathan) shows off his scrolls and shares his vast knowledge on the General Discussion forum like some kind of red-headed bonsai stepchild. That's certainly not the appropriate place, but for now it's really the only place.

Fiona, we had kicked this around once before. Kev, mods, any thoughts?????

Hello Dick. This has been mentioned in the past, along with a forum for special techniques but to no avail. It all costs money and extra resources I suppose. Maybe 1 forum encompassing Display, tables, accents and scrolls?

Hi Will and Fi,

Ritta and I would certainly support the idea for a forum that covers "accent items" (or “companion items” as I have heard them called sometimes) i.e. Accent plants (Kusamono, Shitakusa, Kokedama etc.), as well Suiseki, Scrolls, bronze figures (Tenpai), ceramic figurines etc., Tables / Jiita and all other things display related.

I might point out that we could also justify separate "Forums" on "Soils," "Watering," "Bonsai History" to mention a few.

I really think we are doing OK with the current choices.

I don't agree with forums for every single item of bonsai - if we went down that road we'd end up as Billy suggests with far too many topic areas which would only confuse and would ultimately over-dilute the response too far.

But Russell is right - I have already suggested that we expand one of the forums to include all aspects of display as it is very clear that we have some top drawer contributors in areas such as kusamono etc, display tables, scrolls, jittas and other display-related things.

So please, leave this one with us, and can I ask you cordially to remember that your moderator team do their work on here in their own time. Sometimes, just sometimes, their "real life" has to take over for a while and things don't happen as quickly as members might like. But it most certainly is a "work in progress".

With jokes like that you MUST be from Titchfield!

I think these subjects would be more than covered in 'Kusamono and Suiseki'.

There I was thinking that's what Bonsai and Bonsai questions was all about.

Bonsai stands, display tables, whatever. No need for a different forum. Show a bonsai stand with a bonsai on it. Then we can have discussion on whether or not the stand/table is appropriate for the bonsai being displayed. Based on what I see at bonsai shows, there is a need for study and discussion concerning display.

Indeed Mike, but I may have missed the OP's point, it is not a different forum that has been proposed, just an additional section. At the last count I saw only eight active sections which is hardly overkill.

Billy

With respect, (IMO) that was a bit OTT saying soil, watering and whatever else you added! It was just a request for a section on stands. scratch
