This Tree was kindly given to me by Brian when I visited his garden in Cornwall in 2007 Cool Brian was asking a few weeks ago 'how is the Hawthorn?

Very nice development and a great Hawthorn, especially the nebari.
Only one thing is better than the nebari...Brian’s kindness Smile

Brian is a great guy and I have been helping him with his trees (when I can) and when I visit.

Looking at the raw material THIS is what members should be collecting, not pencil thin whips that have no character.

Hi Tony,
Wow what a Fantastic tree ...
It's definitely where I want to be taking my bonsai future! But it's a struggle to get great material, without it costing the earth. Hopefully our club licence will be granted next year.

I'm amazed how much growth the tree has put on in those 4yrs, you must be feeding it something special!

I'm also interested in seeing the tree without the bamboo background. I'd like to see what you've done with the cut off stump hidden in the top middle of the tree.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Tony

Not the least sarcastic [though it is easyer said than done - to find], I couldn't agree more with you, but I think THIS kind of raw material is inferior to shohin lovers Shocked

...They are still out there making nice little giants of pencil sticks jocolor

Looking closely between the photographs... Have you been able to re-position the 'front' round slightly... The root to the right (first picture) seems either heavily reduced or almost not there? Very clever!

Cheers

Hi Brian, removed for two reasons... A) it was dead... and B) it was simply too exaggerated in taper... even though it was natural.

I am not a lover of the massively dramatic tapering on bonsai as you sometimes see in the field grown Trident Maples.

the tree has been rotated to 'hide' the big cut... the offer to come to my garden still stands cyclops

Loke... you ... I... and anyone with any sense of bonsai know that great Shohin starts with Pencil sticks but rarely are great Shohin exhibited that are Pencil Sticks. pale

That's an excellent Hawthorn you have there. ThumbsUp

You've probably answered this a million times but what's your feeding regime for your Hawthorns?

Tony...the premise being collecting, not exibiting pencil sticks bounce

Any way, raw material like this and your obvious creativeness is everything one could aspire for next spring drunken

...Keep us updated on this one...
