I've been working on this small raft for 3 years now. It's nice in bloom. Fruit is a very pale pink and nothing to get excited about. The driftwood is just decoration.

Nice Jim, is that drift wood or a rock. Which ever, I like it. Just realized you mentioned drift wood

Dear Jim,

Beautiful tree. I enjoy the contrast between deadwood and flowers.
Is this a Sara Rayner pot?

Thank you,
Lycia

You say it's just for decoration so is the driftwood not a permanent part of the first one, Jim? If it is detachable, any chance of a pic without it?

I like them both btw, but would like to see the "rafting" of the first one without the decoration

Your wish is my command, Fiona -- always. Smile

Lycia: The pot is by Robert Wallace, Hendersonville, NC a few miles up the road from me. You can see many other pots of his in our Pots forum.

Good call Fiona...

Great little one you have there Jim...I like it better without the driftwood...for the long haul at least...

Pat…mounted on my trusty stead, riding off wildly in all directions…

Can you tell me, or point to a link, more details about Cotoneaster care & styling? I recently bought & did preliminary work on a 'Tom Thumb' that wants to be a tiny apple tree. When can I put it in a bonsai pot?

The people I know repot theitr cotoneaster in spring, before the buds open, and this is what I also do.

But I actually repotted cotos in the summer too, without cutting too much of the rootball. I don't think this is recommended though.

I thing I had forgotten because of several rather mild winters in a row is that a recently established coto, or one with few roots should be protected from hard frosts : I lost two rather large air-layers I had separated last year for lack of protection. The third one, which was partially covered with leaves, made it.
