Hi!

I collected a pine(15 years old) this spring. The buds(candles) have begun to grow up. Could you help me please and tell me what operations should i do with tree and its buds?

Thanks

Hello Igor. I assume you are talking about a collected tree and want some back budding? As it is showing signs of growth you can start to give a light feed to the tree on a weekly basis. The strength can be increased throughout the Summer. At the end of July/ beginning of August when the new candles have opened and have hardened of, cut them back to 6/8 pairs of needles. You will be rewarded with good back budding in needled areas and perhaps on old wood too.

Thank you! What do you think is not necessary to remove candle(buds) stands this year, or only next spring?
