They grow so aggressively that in a short time this will be a beautiful cascade.
Do you know how smaller the leaves can get?

Thank you Nellie....I appreciate your input. I do not know how much smaller the leaves can get.....my current plan has been to pinch out the very large leaves.

Tom

Nice going!

A few days ago I found an Ivy plant thrown into the rubbish without its pot.
I took it home with me, cleaned the soil, pruned it and potted into proper substrate.
I wired it in a similar to yours design.

Tom,

I like your ivy bonsai. I have one and like you remove the large leaves. Mine wouldn't win a contest but I like it, it's gnarly and interesting.

I am not going to repot this year. Will let it get root bound to see if the leaves will reduce. Will see and report. (I repot in summer and the plant doesn't slow down. )

++++++++++++++++++++

Another cool and similar plant is porcelainberry. I bought the cultivated variegated variety Ampelopsis brevic.... 'Elegans' from Mr. Valavanis' catalog several years ago. It naturally produces a very cool nebari and has beautiful leaves which are silver, light green and pink (gets greener as the season goes on). It makes a natural cascade, just a little pruning required.

BTW this cultivated variety is not invasive like the species which has invaded the eastern US.

Thank you

Hi Tom,

My ivy is just what we call English tree ivy, the ivy that has naturalized and is found all over in the Mid-Atlantic. I collected mine behind a fence covered in ivy.

Best to you, will have to get one of my kids to show me how to post a photo.
