Metasequoia Empty Metasequoia

Hi,
Tell me, is it possible/preferable to defoliate a metasequoia? (I guess the spring season was a bit too short to do all the work in time scratch )

I wouldn't do that (defoliate). Any branch that you strip bare and there's nothing else following, you're rolling the dice; either it's going to backbud like crazy or totally weaken it.

They grow really fast and need a lot of attention.

Here you go, check this out.

Why on earth would you? It has little needles, not big leaves.

Hello Iris. Defoliation isn't just about leaf size. It's also about breaks of bud and building ramification. Don't know if this is a suitable subject though.
